Rotor Clip plans foray into India

World’s largest industrial clip manufacturer, Rotor Clip Company Inc. of USA plans to enter the Indian market by setting up a countrywide distribution network.

The $80 million (Rs 450 crore) privately owned, Rotor Clip also plans to set up a greenfield facility in India once it generate critical mass of volume by establishing itself as a regular supplier to automotive, wind energy, power generation and white good sectors.

Jonathan Slass owner of Rotor Clip said during his maiden visit to India, “We are primarily a US based company and are looking at growth outside our principal market. We have already entered China two years back and are looking at India and other emerging markets for out future growth.”

The company has appointed Kolkata based Pelican Associates as its India distributor. It plans to develop the Indian market initially with various original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India where it plans to import its products for local sales.

Rotor Clip primarily makes Retaining Ring and has 85% market share of the US market. It also manufactures other industrial rings like hose clamps, wave springs from its principal facility in Somerset in US, which are marketed globally through various subsidiaries and distribution channels. It already has global automotive companies like Ford, Chrysler, Delphi, Visteon and Bosch in its client list.

“We have a small exposure to the Indian market, but now we are planning to approach customers with our diversified list of industrial products. We have noticed that there are considerable imports at the OEM level in India and there is scope of taking a large share of this market,” Mr Slass added.

To cater to the OEMs, Rotorclip would go in with a stocking yards in the Chennai, Gurgaon and the Pune belt to service its customer. This plan will be executed with Pelican Associates as its local partner.
