Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. announced it has signed a deal to open 60 franchise stores in South Korea during the next five years.

The deal is with existing franchisee Lotteria Co. LTD, which will develop the stores. Lotteria also plans to remodel more than half of its 73 existing Krispy Kreme locations throughout the country.

The expansion in the Asia Pacific region is part of Krispy Kreme’s (NYSE: KKD) ambitious growth plan, which aims to grow to 900 international stores by 2017 and to more than 400 domestic stores by that time.

The Winston-Salem-based doughnut maker operates in 22 countries worldwide. Most recently, the company announced in March it would open 10 franchise stores in Taiwan.
