ALLAHABAD: Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC), a public sector undertaking of the ministry of railways, has launched a new application for devices with Windows 8 software to facilitate users to book e-tickets in addition to the existing portal. The new IRCTC-App has been launched in collaboration with Microsoft.
Giving this information, public relations officer (PRO) Amit Malviya said that CMD, IRCTC, Rakesh Tandon, along with general manager and developer and platform evangelism, Microsoft Corporation, Joseph Landes, launched the new application for the public at a function held here on Thursday. The app has been made available exclusively for Windows devices and users with Windows phone, Windows 8 desktop/tab can download this free application from Windows Phone Store or Windows Store.
Users can plan a trip, make reservations, check the PNR status and use other features which are also available on the website. It will be available throughout the day except from 8am to 12pm and 23:30pm to 12am as per the existing railway guidelines.
The app also offers exclusive services to the users including visual maps of train routes, Windows Phone live tiles and access to saved traveller profiles from multiple devices to mention a few.
Malviya added that this application will help a wide number of users as Windows is a widely familiar platform. It offers the best in class, security required while handling personal and financial data of customers. The move meets the objective of IRCTC among others to focus relentlessly on enhancing customer experience.
